It’s been a long time coming

Almost two years exactly since our original production of Marie Jones’s Stones in His Pockets was shut down by COVID-19, here we are again getting this puppy up on its feet in time for a St. Patrick’s day Weekend opening. Conor McGuigan and I start intense rehearsals tonight to get this fabled two-hander cooking.

Stones is the story of the tiny Irish village of Cong, where back in the 1950s, John Ford shot the ultimate Irish movie, The Quiet Man, starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara. Decades later, another big American movie is filming there and turning the village on its head. Jake Quinn and Charlie Conlon are locals hired to play background turf cutters in the costume drama. But as is common on many movie sets, there is more drama behind the camera than in front, and these two are up to their necks in it.

I’ve got even more beard now, but the hat remains the same.
